Abstract

An aqueous gold electroplating bath contains 10-200 g./l. of a salt of a weak stable acid, e.g. citric acid, 4-16 g./l. of gold added as an alkali metal gold cyanide and 1/2 -20 g./l. of a nitrogen compound having the formula <FORM:0995500/C6-C7/1> where the R's are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, an alkyl group of up to 6 carbon atoms and an aryl group containing 6 carbon atoms and X may be <FORM:0995500/C6-C7/2> -OH or <FORM:0995500/C6-C7/3> the R's being as before, and the bath being adjusted to a pH of 2.5-7, A salt of the nitrogen compound may be used. The nitrogen compound or its salt may be hydrazine, hydrazine sulphate, methyl hydrazine, 1,1-dimethyl hydrazine, hydroxylamine hydrochloride, phenyl hydrazine or urea. Specifications 897,463 and 928,087 are referred to.
