Abstract
895,156. Copper-plating baths. METAL & THERMIT CORPORATION. Feb. 16, 1960 [March 19, 1959], No. 5514/60. Class 41. Alkali cyanide copper-plating baths are improved by adding a polyethoxylated quaternary compound of formula in which R is an alkyl or alkenyl radical of 8-16 C atoms, X is a halogen, and n and m are up to 14, and preferably total 10-20. The compounds preferred are formed by condensing a polyethoxylated fatty amine, e.g. derived from coconut, oleyl or stearyl alcohol with an alkyl halide. These compounds act as brightening and de-foaming agents. Other optional additions include, selenium or tellurium diethyl dithio carbamate, alkali metal tartrate, gluconate or citrate and lead acetate. The electrolyte may be air agitated, and the current reversed during deposition on surfaces of iron, steel, nickel, zinc or lead.
