Abstract

A nickel plating bath comprises an aqueous solution of nickel ions and hypophosphite ions, a complexing agent and an exalting additive; the complexing agent substantially completely complexing all the nickel ions in the bath; and the exalting additive either (1) being a single short chain saturated aliphatic dicarboxylic acid having 3-6 C atoms or a salt thereof or (2), when the complexing agent is not an aliphatic aminocarboxylic acid or a salt thereof, being such an acid or salt. The complexing agent may be ammonia, an amine, acid amine, aminocarbonyl, amineoxide, p polyalcohol, heterocyclic dicarboxylic acid, saturated aliphatic hydroxycarboxylic acid, aliphatic aminocarboxylic acid, aliphatic keto-acid or a salt thereof. Specifications 761,062, 761,556, 785,693, 785,694 and 785,695 are referred to.
