Abstract

995,262. Cathode-ray tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. July 13, 1962 [July 13, 1961], No. 27018/62. Heading H1D. To amplify the deflection in a cathode-ray display apparatus, cf. an oscilloscope, there are provided, in the electron beam path beyond the deflection system D, two magnetic systems comprising pairs of parallel, rectangular pole faces P, P<SP>1</SP> producing parallel, but opposite, fields, the larger dimension of the first pair P being at right angles to the electron gun axis, and the larger dimension of the second pair forming a marked angle therewith. As shown, the two systems produce equal and opposite fields and between the first pair of pole faces P the angular deflection of the beam is amplified but a mean deflection 40 is superimposed. The second pair of pole faces P<SP>1</SP> are at an angle # 0 to the gun axis and provide further amplification of the beam deflection, the mean direction of the emergent beam being parallel to the gun axis. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 3 (not shown), the field intensity between pole faces P<SP>1</SP> is greater than that between pole faces P so that the beam when not subjected to an initial deflection impinges on screen E on the gun axis at point I. To avoid astigmatism, the beam is focused by two independent systems of electrodes H, V forming lenses in the vertical and horizontal planes. Specification 650,044 and French Specification 866,058 are referred to.
