Abstract

A bituminous composition comprises by weight 50-75% blown bitumen, 5-20% coal tar pitch, and 15-40% filler. The bitumen preferably has R. and B. softening point 80-150 DEG C., and the coal-tar pitch preferably has K.S. softening point 60-120 DEG C. The filler may be one or more of e.g. talc or slate powder, asbestos, or silicous, or calcareous filler. Antioxidants, fungicides or adhesion improvers may be present. The composition may in heated, liquid form be used for coating pipes, tubes, and conduits, which have preferably been pretreated with a primer. The primer may contain a bitumen and an aromatic solvent. The bitumen is preferably a blown bitumen with R.B. softening point 85-135 DEG C. and penetration at 25 DEG C. of 10-20.
