Abstract
A primer for use with coal tar enamel comprises bituminous coal dispersed in a coal tar pitch/coal tar oil mixture at a temperature of 300-360 DEG C., and coal tar naphtha in an amount to afford brushing consistency and has dissolved therein polystyrene (e.g. 5 to 15% by weight) and/or chlorinated rubber (e.g. 1 to 10% by weight) in such amount as to enhance the adhesion of the primer and enamel to steel.ALSO:A primer for use with coal tar enamel comprises bituminous coal dispersed in a coal tar pitch/coal tar oil mixture at a temperature of 300-360 DEG C. and coal tar naphtha in an amount to afford brushing consistency and has dissolved therein polystyrene (e.g. 5 to 15% by weight) and/or chlorinated rubber (e.g. 1 to 10% by weight) in such amount as to enhance the adhesion of the primer and enamel to steel.ALSO:Mild steel pipes and plates are coated, e.g. by brushing or pouring, with a primer comprising bituminous coal dispersed in a coal tar pitch/coal tar oil mixture at 300-360 DEG C., and coal tar naphtha and having dissolved therein polystyrene and/or chlorinated rubber and then with coal tar enamel comprising bituminous coal dispersed in a coal tar pitch/coal tar oil mixture and fillers, e.g. talc or slate.
