Abstract

An open-gear lubricant comprises by weight 0.5-5% creosote, 1.0-15% wool grease, and 1.0-7.5% microcrystalline petroleum wax, the balance being petroleum bitumen of penetration 200-350 mm/10 at 25 DEG C. By "creosote" is meant a coal tar fraction of initial b.p. 200 DEG C. and final b.p. at least 325 DEG C. Wool grease is obtained by acid treatment of wool-scouring effluents.
