Abstract

A bituminous adhesive and sealing composition comprises a petroleum-derived bitumen residual having a Saybolt-Furol viscosity at 210 DEG F. of from 50 to 250 seconds and a filler of finely-ground inorganic silicates, vegetable fibres, rice hulls, or mixtures thereof. The bitumen, which constitutes 45-95% of the composition, has a flash point of 475 DEG F., a specific gravity of 0.95-1.04 and a susceptibility factor (result of dividing the penetration at 77 DEG F. by that at 32 DEG F.) not greater than 6. The filler preferably consists of equal parts of bentonite and asbestos.
