Abstract

A method of preparing a bitumen blending component comprises heating propane-precipitated asphalt with elemental sulphur at 130 to 300 DEG C. for at least 2 hours. Preferably, 2-20% by weight of sulphur is used and the heating is carried out for 2 to 10 hours. The examples describe the use of flowers of sulphur and a propane-precipitated asphalt obtained from a Middle East crude.
