Abstract

The invention comprises the complex of potassium acetylsalicylate with an equimolar proportion of acetylsalicylic acid and its preparation by reacting the acid with a potassium salt of a monobasic carboxylic acid having a pK value of at least 4.0 in a liquid reaction medium which is a solvent for both reactants. The reactants may be mixed together in the form of mutually miscible solutions, or dispersions may be used provided the mixed liquid reaction medium is a solvent for both reactants. The preferred salt for the reaction is potassium acetate. Examples are given. The complex of the invention may be made up into an orally ingestible analgesic preparation with a suitable carrier. Tablets, capsules and suppositories are referred to.
