991,757. Jaw crushers. PREPARATION INDUSTRIELLE DES COMBUSTIBLES. Aug. 9, 1961 [Aug. 26, 1960], No. 28798/61. Heading B2A. A method of feeding products to be crushed and containing lumps to toothed roller and concave plate crushers comprises directing a supply of the products to the crusher so that the average trajectory of the supply is curved and substantially tangential to the bisectors of the nip angles of the lumps and arranging that the supply has an input velocity at the most substantially equal to the peripheral velocity of the roller and at least equal to half the peripheral velocity of the roller. The apparatus shown comprises an endless belt 12 for feeding material in the direction 18 between a toothed roller 4 and a concave plate 7. The roller 4 has teeth 5, 6 of different sizes. The plate 7 resembles a logarithmic spiral in cross-section and is hinged about a fixed spindle 8 and about a pin 10 connected to a resilient device 11. The belt 12 passes around drums 13, 14, the position of the drum 13 being adjustable. In a modification, the apparatus comprises a twostage crusher, the roller of the first stage forming the feeding device for the second stage.
