Class 59 Material to be ground is conveyed from feed rollers r2, r1 to the nip between grinding rollers Rl, R2 by means of a cascade plate P which has a concave lower part a2 to present a concavity towards the grinding roller R1 and a convex upper part to present a concavity towards the feed roller r1 to provide a hopper-like entry a1. The plate P is either fixed or adjustable, e.g. by means of upper and lower pairs of eccentrics a4, a3, Fig. 2. A deflector plate D may also be provided. The roller R1 is preferably driven at a faster speed than the roller R2.
