Abstract

Compounds of the general formula <FORM:0991203/C2/1> (wherein R1 stands for an isopropyl, isobutyl or S-butyl radical) and non-toxic, pharmaceutically-acceptable acid addition salts thereof are prepared by generating in situ an amino compound of the formula <FORM:0991203/C2/2> (wherein A stands for the radical CO or CHOH) and subsequently interacting it with a carbonyl compound of the formula R2COR3 (wherein R2 stands for a hydrogen atom and R3 stands for an isopropyl radical, or R2 stands for a methyl radical and R3 stands for a methyl or ethyl radical) under reducing conditions, optionally followed by acid addition salt formation. 2-Naphthaldehyde cyanhydrin is prepared from 2-naphthaldehyde, potassium cyanide and sulphuric acid.
