Abstract

Novel thiocarboxylic acid amides of the general formula <FORM:1112210/C2/1> wherein R1 represents an alkyl, alkenyl, aralkyl or aryl radical optionally further substituted by hydroxy or amino groups, alkoxy groups containing 1-4 carbon atoms, alkoxy carbonyl groups containing 1-12 carbon atoms, or halogen atoms; R2 represents hydrogen, alkyl or aryl; or R1 and R2, when representing alkyl, may be linked directly or via a nitrogen or oxygen atom to form a ring having at most 6 carbon atoms; and R3 represents alkyl or aralkyl, and salts thereof are prepared by reacting together, in a molar ratio of 1:4 or more, a trithiacyclopentane and a primary or secondary amine of the respective formulae <FORM:1112210/C2/2> followed by optional liberation of the free thiocarboxylic acid amide from the base addition salt thus obtained by acidification and optional conversion into other salts thereof by reaction with alkali or alkaline earth hydroxides, heavy metal salts or amines.ALSO:Fungicidal, bactericidal and pharmaceutical compositions comprise a thiocarboxylic acid amide of the formula <FORM:1112210/A5-A6/1> or a salt thereof, wherein R1 is akyl, alkenyl, aralkyl or aryl optionally substituted by hydroxy or amino C1-C4 alkoxy, C1-C12 alkoxy-carbonyl or halogens, R2 is hydrogen, alkyl or aryl; or R1 and R2, both being alkyl, are linked either directly or via a nitrogen or oxygen atom to form a ring having at most 6 carbon atoms; and R3 is alyl or aralyl, when prepared by the specified process (see Div. C2), together with a conventional carrier. The compositions are particularly useful as diuretics.
