Abstract
990,994. Coupling ropes. CABLE COVERS Ltd. Jan. 30, 1962 [Dec. 2, 1960], No. 41460/60. Heading D1T. A method and means for clamping non- metallic ropes together comprises a ductile metal sleeve 1, Fig. 6, of uniform bore which is radiused or chamfered either internally or externally at its ends and into which the rope lenghts are inserted, the sleeve being then subjected to pressure to cause the sleeve to extrude into the interstices of the ropes Fig. 7. The sleeve illustrated in Fig. 6 may be formed by suitably compressing a cylindrical sleeve and after the rope lengths have been inserted the sleeve is compressed back to cylindrical form to trap the rope lengths therein Fig. 7.
