Abstract

1,186,283. Forming bosses on cables. BAUDIN-CHATEAUNEUF. 20 May, 1968 [26 June, 1967], No. 23882/68. Heading D1T. An apparatus for the formation of two bosses on cables used for reinforcing concrete comprises a frame 5, Fig. 1, with means 11, 12, 17, 22 for gripping a cable 3 at a certain distance from one of its ends, means 82 for axial compression of the cable between said end and its gripped part, two shells 26, 27 the internal shapes of which match the shapes of the bosses to be formed, and an intermediate sleeve 44 dismantableable into several parts, the sleeve 44 having an internal diameter equal to the diameter of the cable and a length equal to the spacing of the shells 26, 27 so that on compressing the cable axially the cable is compelled to distend into the shells 26, 27 to define said bosses whilst the length in between is restrained from expanding by the sleeve 44. Thereafter the bosses are stabilized by pouring mortar or other suitable products into the shells 26, 27. The frame 5 has clamps 48, 49 for holding the sleeve 44, an end wall 31 against which the cable gripping means 11, 12, 17, 22 acts, and an end wall 81 against which the compression means 82 acts. The means 82 may be a hydraulic jack and the frame 5 includes screw means 86 that can be used to take over the thrust exerted by the jack 82 whilst the mortar or the like is setting in the shells 26, 27.
