[Also in Division F2] Apparatus for crimping a coupling about a hose end comprises a plurality of dies 19, e.g. eight, slidable in a base 17, which are moved radially inwardly by an hydraulicallyoperated frusto-conical camming member 13 engaging the complementary shaped ends thereof to crimp the coupling sleeve 25 about the hose end 12 and against the barbed portion of the coupling 11 inserted therein. The crimping end of each die is tapered at 45 degrees. The sleeve 25 is initially connected to the coupling 11 by turning one end thereof into a groove 26 therein. A gauging unit 20 comprises a headed gauging rod 21 attached to the member 13 which is slidable within a bore of a gauge element 22 adjustably attached to the base 17. In operation, the member 13 is raised until the top face of the headed rod 21 is flush with the top face of the preset element 22 at which point the crimping dies are released by lowering the member 13.
