Abstract

990,395. Yarn severing and transfering device. H. GLASTRA. July 10, 1962 [July 13, 1961 (2)], No. 26558/62. Heading D1D. [Also in Division B8] A cop-tube for a spindle of a ring-spinning &c. frame, comprises a flat top 5 with axiallydirected flexible pins 6 which will hold a yarn laid between them at the start of a wind. The pins may be of plastics material and the top 5 may be separated by a stem 4 from a metal reinforcement 3 fitted over the top of the tube to provide a recess engageable by a forked doffing-member. The tube may be used in conjunction with the threadsevering and transferring device shown in Fig. 2. This comprises fixed clamping elements 14, 16, a fixed knife 11 and an elastic block 12 which can be moved towards and away from these members by a rod 18. At the end of a wind, the device lies below an upper doffed packake and above an empty tube 2. The block 12 is moved to the right to trap the yarn in two places, viz, between a rib 15 on block 12 and the element 14, and between the underside of the block and element 16, while the thread is severed by knife 11 co-operating with a recess in the block. As the block continues to move to the right, the rib 15 passes beyond the end of member 14 to release the severed upper part of the thread depending from the doffer package. The device is now moved towards the empty tube 2 so that a slotted member 9 forming the base of the device engages in a recess between the members 3, 5 of the tube, so that it is moved back against the action of springs 19, 24. A member 20 upstanding from the members 9 engages a finger 21 of a V-shaped arm hingedly mounted at 22 so that the arm 23 is tilted to carry the yarn into engagement with the pins 6. At the same time, the block 12 is moved back to release the yarn from clamp 16. The device is then moved back for spinning to begin. The rod 18 may operate a number of devices. Specification 990,396 is referred to.
