Abstract
988,417. Yarn packages. ALGEMENE KUNSTZIJDE UNIE N.V. Sept. 5, 1963 [Sept. 20, 1962], No. 35188/63. Heading D1D. [Also in Division B8] A yarn package 4 is wound on a bobbin 3 and two distinct bundles 8, 11 are wound one at either end of the bobbin, the lower bundle 8 serving to secure a transfer tail wound under the bundle and the upper bundle 11 including the starting end of the thread which is secured against the bobbin by a removable clamping device. With the bobbin 3 mounted on a spindle 1 in a draw-twisting machine and with a ring traveller in the position a an initial waste portion 6 of yarn is wound on the spindle 1. The ring is raised to position b forming a loop 7 which passes over the transfer rim 2 and further turns 8 are wound at the lower end of the bobbin before the ring is raised to the position c leaving about three spaced turns 9 wound about the bobbin. The ring is traversed in the normal manner between positions c and d to build a package 4 and then raised to position e to form the upper bundle 11. The cycle of operations is complete by lowering the ring to the position a thereby forming a steeply inclined turn 12. The turn 12 is cut at the point where it crosses an annular groove 13, the tail end 15 placed in the bore of the bobbin and a removable clamping device (Figs. 3, 4, and 5 not shown) placed on the end of the bobbin to hold the end 15. The wound bobbin is next doffed, in the course of which the loop of yarn 7 catches in a notch 14 in the transfer rim and becomes severed thereby, leaving a short tail of yarn extending from under the bundle 8. Axial grooves 19 in the lower end of the bobbin facilitate cutting through the bundle 8 to leave the turns 9 available for piecing to another package.
