(Cl. 57-34) This invention relates to a device for fastening a yarn end to a tube of a spinning or twining machine. A similar device is known from the Belgian patent specification 620,105.
It is an object of the invention, to provide a device of this type, the construction and the operation of which are simpler and which comprises fewer movable parts, so as to reduce to a minimum the risk of disturbances resulting from the extremely dusty surroundings, in which these devices operate.
In order to achieve this, the device according to this invention is provided with a tube, the flat or substantially flat top end of which is equipped with a coaxial clamping element, the bottom surface of which is pressed against the top surface of the tube by means of a spring, and with a plate-shaped inserter, which is movable in such a manner that it can be brought between the tube and the clamping element.
Another object of the invention is to provide such a device, which, like the known device, is adapted to cut a thread and subsequently fasten one of the thread ends thus formed to the tube. For this purpose, there are disposed one over the other on the inserter, a cutter and a plate-shaped yarn tensioner, both of which are directed towards the tube, and the clamping element is provided with recesses, which receive the cutter and the yarn tensioner when the inserter is situated between the tube and the clamping element.
Such a device is specially suitable for application in spinning and twining machines equipped with an automatic dofiing apparatus, in which, after an empty tube has been placed on the spindle, the full tube which has been dotted is situated over the spinning spindle, such as for instance the combined spinning and winding machine according to Belgian patent specification 620,103. It is possible, with the aid of the device according to this invention, for the yarn in the said spinning machines to be cut between the dotted full tube and the traveller and to be fastened to the empty tube on the spindle, so that spinning can be continued immediately after dofiing.
Further details of the invention will be described hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawing.

FIG. 3 shows a different embodiment of the clamping element on the top end of a tube.
A clamping element 1, which is made of metal or of synthetic resin and which is provided with a bore 2 having a narrowed bottom part, is centered on a tube 5, only the top end of which is shown in the drawing, by means of a pin 3, the top end of which is broadened to form a head 4. There is some clearance between the narrowest part of the bore 2 and the pin 3, so that the clamping element 1 can glide along the pine 3. A screw spring 6, which is provided about the pin 3 and which is supported on the one side against the head i Patented Jan. 31, 1967 of the pin 3 and, on the other side, against the narrowed part of the bore 2, exerts a downward force on the clamping element 1, which element is hereby pressed with its bottom side on to the top side of the tube (FIG. 1).
The substantially cylindrical outside surface of the clamping element 1 is provided with two recesses 7 and 8, the upper and lower boundaries of which are formed by surfaces, which are perpendicular to the axis of the clamping element 1. Another recess is present in the bottom surface of the clamping element 1, in which recess there is positioned a rubber insert 9. The junction between the flat bottom surface and the cylindrical outside surface of the clamping element 1 is rounded, the same as the edge of the top surface of the tube 5.
An inserter .10 is provided opposite each spindle on a rail, not shown in the drawing, which extends over the entire length of the spinning machine. This inserter consists of a thin plate having a V-shaped incision in the side which is directed towards the spinning spindle, this incision being extended in the middle by a short slot 11 fitting about the pin 3.
A squarely bent plate-shaped yarn tensioner 12 and a cutter holder 13 holding a cutter 14 are fixed on the inserter 10 by means of a bolt 15. At the front side of the yarn tensioner 12 is an incision having the shape of a circled arch, which corresponds with the recess 7 of the clamping element 1.
The rail, on to which the inserter 10 is fixed, can be moved horizontally in the direction of the spinning spindles.
The operation of the device is as follows:
When a full tube is replaced by the empty tube 5 and is removed in upward direction, a yarn portion 16 is present between the dotted full tube and the traveller of the spinning machine. This yarn portion must be cut through, to make the further conveyance of the full tube possible, whereas the yarn end coming from the traveller is to be fastened to the empty tube 5, so as to make it possible for the spinning process to be continued.
For this purpose the rail, on to which the inserter 10 is mounted, is moved in the direction of the spinning spindles. By this movement, the yarn 16 is introduced into the slot 11 via the V-shaped incision of the inserter 10. As the rail advances, the inserter 10 penetrates between the top surface of the tube 5 and the clamping element 1, which causes the said element to be pressed upward along the pin 3 against the pressure of the spring 6. By this action the yarn 16 is clamped between the inserter 10 and the clamping element 1.
At the same time, the yarn 16 is pressed into the recess 7 of the clamping element 1 by the tensioner 12 and the cutter 14 tries to push the yarn 16 into the recess 8. However, the yarn 16 is clamped fast bet-ween the inserter 10 and the clamping element :1 on the one hand, and meets with so much resistance in the recess 7 from the tensioner 12 on the other hand, that it is cut through by the cutter 14.
When the rail of the inserter 10 is subsequently withdrawn, the yarn end coming from the traveller remains clamped between the clamping element 1 and the top surface of the tube 5, because the rubber insert 9 prevents the yarn from being withdrawn along with the inserter 10, and the other yarn end, which is connected to the doffed full tube, is released.
Immediately after this the spinning machine is ready to continue spinning.
In another embodiment of the device the top end of each tube 5 is provided with a clamping element 17 made of elastic rubber, as shown in FIG. 3. The clamping element 17 is fitted on the top of the tube 5 by means (B of the pin 3 and has recesses 7 and 8 to receive the tensioner 12 and the cutter 14, respectively. This clamping element is operated in the same way as the one shown in FIGURES 1 and 2.
I claim:
1. A device for fastening a yarn in a spinning or twining machine, comprising a tube having a flat top end, a coaxial clamping element mounted on the tube end, a spring to press the bottom surface of the element against the top surface of the tube end, and a plate-shaped inserter, movable so that it can be brought between the tube end and the clamping element.
2. A device according to claim 1, in which a cutter and a plate-shaped yarn tensioner are provided one over the other on the inserter, and the clamping element being provided with recesses, to receive the cutter and the yarn tensioner when the inserter is placed between the tube end and the clamping element.
3. A device according to claim 1, in which a central pin is provided to fix the clamping element on to the tube end to be movable in an axial direction, and the spring around the pin forcing the element towards the top surface of the tube end.
4. A device according to claim 1, in which at least a bottom part of the clamping element is made of elastically deformable material.
5. A device according to claim 1, in which a side of the inserter which is directed towards the tube end is provided with a tapered incision.
6. A device according to claim 1, in which the edge of the top surface of the tube end is rounded.
7. A device according to claim 1, in which a side of the inserter which is directed towards the tube end is bevelled.
8. A device according to claim 1, in which at least part of the top surface of the tube end has a higher friction coefficient than the inserter.
9. A device according to claim 1, in which the bottom part of the clamping element at least partly consists of rubber.
19. A device according to claim 1, in which a side of the inserter which is directed towards the tube end is rounded.
11. A device according to claim 1, in which the edge of the top surface of the tube end is bevelled.
12. A device for fastening a yarn in a spinning or twining machine, comprising a tube having a fiat top end, a coaxial clamping element mounted on the tube end and composed of an elastic material, a plate-shaped inserter movable so that it can be brought between the tube end and the clamping element due to the resilience of the clamping element, and means in the form of a pin passing through the clamping element and into the tube end.

1. A DEVICE FOR FASTENING A YARN IN A SPINNING OR TWINING MACHINE, COMPRISING A TUBE HAVING A FLAT TOP END, A COAXIAL CLAMPING ELEMENT MOUNTED ON THE TUBE END, A SPRING TO PRESS THE BOTTOM SURFACE OF THE ELEMENT AGAINST THE TOP SURFACE OF THE TUBE END, AND A PLATE-SHAPED INSERTER, MOVABLE SO THAT IT CAN BE BROUGHT BETWEEN THE TUBE END AND THE CLAMPING ELEMENT.
