Abstract

987,990. Tables; folding underframes. QUAKER STRETCHER CO. June 29, 1961 [June 30, 1960; Aug. 12, 1960; Jan. 30, 1961], No. 23601/61. Headings A4H and A4W. The X-frames of a table, Fig 24, can be folded together to form a stand, Fig 23, capable of supporting a number of folded tables having tops 324. Table top 368 is disengageably connected by clips 370 to the cross-pieces of the X-frames. Bar 362 stays the frames in the open position when the top 368 is not in place. The bar also acts as a stop in the folded position. In a modification (Figs. 1-9, not shown), the upper part of the longer frame 332 is bent parallel to supporting arm 350 in the folded position, and the table top 368 is permanently pivotally attached to frame 332 at the position of cross-bar 372, which is omitted. The table may be further modified (Figs. 16-18, not shown) to stand vertically when folded and have a non-integrally formed handle 336. In another form, Fig. 11, the folded tables 130 are supported on a cranked portion of the longer frame 166 and the table top 186 is detachably carried on the reverse side of frame 166. In a further symmetrical form, Fig. 19, both frames are cranked to provide a saddle in which the folded table can hang. Two table tops 186b and 212 are detachably mounted on crossbars.
