Abstract

987,917. Trap-shooting. R. K. PARKER. Sept. 24, 1963 [Sept. 24, 1962], No. 36166/62. Heading A6D. [Also in Division E2] A target for projection. through the air -comprises a hollow body 1 adapted to be charged with a mixture of gas and water, and provided with an outlet 4 at one end through which the gas subsequently issues to propel the target forward. Further, the body contains a pellet 10 of a substance such as calcium carbide which gives off a gas when brought into contact with water, the pellet comprising a shell 11 of porous material which delays the access of the water to the contents of the pellet with the result that the flight of the target is boosted after launching. The body 1 preferably comprises a casing 3 of cardboard and a lining 5 of plastics, a space 8 between the two being filled with a coloured powder which disperses when the target is hit. Also, the target preferably represents a pigeon, and as disclosed in the Provisional Specification, the wings and tail fin thereof may be hinged. The Specification further discloses apparatus for charging and launching the target, comprising an adjustable platform 12 provided with a hollow, apertured spigot adapted for insertion into the target body as shown in broken lines in Fig. 1, and connected to sources of water and a gas. The platform is further provided with a spring clamp 32 (see Division E2) for holding the target on the spigot, and after charging, the target is launched by releasing the clamp.
