Abstract

939,806. Releasing rockets from aircraft. R. A. ROBERT, and P. P. MATGE. June 10, 1960 [June 17, 1959], No. 20442/60. Class 9 (2). Apparatus for discharging rockets comprises a easing 10 to be releasably suspended from an aircraft and contains a plurality of rockets 13 together with a propulsion unit 25 whereby the apparatus can be self-propelled toward a target prior to the discharge of the rockets as in Specification 793,927. The casing 10 is provided with tail fins 12 and is closed at the forward end by a fairing 11 of breakable material such as polyurethane foam. This material may also fill the gaps between tubes 14 containing the rockets and an axial tube 16. Partitions 15 hold the tubes 14 in position and behind these tubes a sleeve 17 mounted on the tube 16 has a deflector surface 18 registering with arcuate openings 20 in the casing 10. The openings 20 are covered with breakable material such as the aforesaid foam. Beyond a transverse bulkhead 23, the unit 25 is supported by spiders 26, 27 and ends in a nozzle 28. The apparatus may be provided with a homing device.
