Abstract

793,927. Self-propelled missiles. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd. Aug. 12, 1953 [May 15, 1952], No. 12373/52. Class 9(2) The combination of an aircraft with a container for a number of rockets is provided with means to release the container from the aircraft and means arranged to fire the rockets from the container after it has been released. As shown in Fig. 1, the container may comprise a nose fairing 11, a central portion 10 containing 20-30 rockets 14, and a tailpiece 12 containing a rocket propulsive unit 13 for propelling the complete unit with its load. An aircraft may carry two containers, one under each wing, and after a predetermined time after a container has been fired from the aircraft the nose fairing 11 may be released by the ignition of a cartridge (not shown); the release of the fairing closes a micro-switch which operates a riffle-firing selector switch so that the rockets 14 are fired at 5 micro-second intervals.
