Abstract

579,982. Rocket dischargers. SCHERMULY, C. D., SCHERMULY, A. J., and SCHERMULY, C. May 11, 1943, No. 7460. [Class 9 (ii)] A rocket apparatus to be dropped into the sea from an aircraft and thereafter to discharge an illuminating rocket, comprises an inner container 3, in which the rocket 7, 7a is packed and which is provided with an annular buoyancy chamber 6, an outer container 1 having a base-plug 8 in which the inner casing is seated, an igniter 5 for a burster charge 4, whereby the casings are separated after falling into the sea, and a second burster charge 12 whereby the rocket is expelled from the inner casing, the charge 12 being ignited by a delay fuze 11 ignited by the charge 4. The outer casing 1 is'in two parts, the cap-part 2 being connected to the rear part by a rupturable waterproof seal 10. A closure disc 2a is soldered to the top end of the inner casing. Weights 13 ensure the upright position of the apparatus when falling from the aircraft.
