Abstract
899,496. Practice projectiles. CONTRAVES A.G. Sept. 21, 1959 [Sept. 29, 1958], No. 32040/59. Classes 9(1) and 9(2). A practice projectile, which simulates an anti-tank rocket controlled from a distance during flight, is provided with parachute means for recovering the projectile undamaged after use. The rocket is provided with signal receiving equipment and flight control fins together with means for translating the signals into movements of the fins, lead wires paid out during flight may connect the rocket to a manually adjustable control device. The body 10 of the projectile is connected to a parachute housing 21 by a ring 19 having inwardly directed hooks 19<SP>11</SP> engaged by the parachute cords 26, which are threaded through openings in a partition 23. A partition 11, screwed into the body 10, has a central aperture surrounded by a cylindrical wall 12 housing a piston 13. Forward movement of the piston is limited by abutment of a flange thereon against a shoulder provided on the partition 11. The passage through the wall 12 is closed by a member 14 housing an electric detonator 17 and a time fuze 16 in passages leading to an explosive charge 15. When flash from the fuze 16 or the detonator 17 sets off the charge 15, the piston 13 is driven against the partition 23 and causes pins 22 to shear, so that the housing 21 parts from the body 10 and the parachute 28 deploys. The cap 21 is discarded and the parachute brakes the fall of the remainder of the rocket.
