Abstract

1344786 Flares RHEINMETALL GmbH 30 Aug 1972 [4 Sept 1971] 40182/72 Heading F3A A pyrotechnic device such as a star-shell, bomb or rocket comprises a main parachute 17 attached to a flare 6, a drogue parachute 21 attached to a sleeve 10, which, in turn, is releasably connected to the flare, and a charge 3 for ejecting these members rearwardly from a casing 1 and for igniting the flare and a delay 7. The drogue parachute opens immediately upon ejection from the casing, and suspends the assembly of ejected members vertically. Thereafter a separating charge (not shown) ignited via the delay 7 breaks the connection between the sleeve 10 and the flare, and thereby allows the main parachute to be withdrawn from the sleeve 10 under the weight of the flare. Shearable pins 11 comprise the connection between the sleeve and flare.
