Abstract

1,135,541. Rockets. SCHERMULY Ltd. 5 April, 1966 [6 April, 1965], No. 14496/65. Heading F3A. A solid fuel rocket, particularly for use as a signalling device, anti-radar, anti-hail, or rain-making device having a maximum altitude of 10,000 feet comprises a main casing 1, e.g. of aluminium, housing a rocket motor 6, a detachably secured auxiliary casing 13 housing a rocket motor 18, and an explosive charge 21 situated between the two motors, the explosive charge 21 being ignitable by the burning of the rocket motor in the auxiliary casing and serving to both ignite the motor in the main casing and to separate the auxiliary casing from the main casing. The explosive charge 21 extends into a recess 23 in the motor 18 so that it explodes before the rocket motor 18 is completely burnt out. The rocket may comprise a number of auxiliary casings and motors each ignitable and separable by an interposed explosive charge. A payload 8 such as an illuminating signal, a parachute flare or an anti-radar device is ejected from the rocket on ignition of a charge 9. The main and auxiliary casings are provided with skirts 3 and 15 each having apertures 12 and serving as stabilizing tails in flight.
