Abstract
987,673. Plansifters. HENRY SIMON Ltd. March 2, 1962 [April 11, 1961], No. 12964/61. Heading B2H. A plansifter of the free swinging type, comprising sieve units a and a supporting framework, is suspended on slinging elements n, which carry the free swinging unit, and is caused to gyrate in a horizontal orbit by rotation of a central vertical pendulum shaft f, coupled at its upper end by a universal coupling element g, to a vertical drive shaft j, Fig. 2, carried in journal bearings on an overhead supporting framework m, from which the free swinging unit is slung, the lower end of the pendulum shaft f having a parallel off-set extension f<SP>1</SP>, rotatably supported at the geometric centre of the free swinging unit by a spherical bearing b, the off-set extension f<SP>i</SP> being furnished with balance weights c, d which provide for the dynamic counter balancing of the free swinging unit when it is in horizontal orbit, the weights c, d being so arranged above and below the geometric centre of the free swinging unit that the pendulum shaft f does not exert a horizontal force on the coupling element g as it is rotated, an eccentrically disposed auxiliary balance weight i, Fig. 2, being mounted on the drive shaft j to transmit, through the journal bearings to the framework m, a horizontal force equal and in anti-phase to the horizontal force transmitted to the framework m by the slinging elements n carrying the free swinging unit. The auxiliary balance weight i may be integral with the rim of a drive pulley h for the shaft j, Fig. 2. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), the drive shaft j is driven by bevel gearing and the balance weight i is mounted on the inside of an annular rim keyed to the shaft j. Sheet metal plates o, Fig. 1, may be attached to the upper or lower surfaces of the sieve units a to ensure that the centre of gravity of the free swinging unit is in the horizontal plane e-e containing the spherical bearing b. The elements n may be canes, spring rods, or wire ropes.
