Abstract
861,011. Bearings. KEYSER, J. J. Feb. 3, 1959, No. 3704/59. Class 12 (1). A spinning or twisting spindle is positioned axially and radially in the equatorial zone of an imaginary sphere and is driven by forces applied at, or symmetrically with, said zone; the only mounting point of the spindle is in the equatorial zone, and means are provided for damping the spindle oscillations symmetrically to this zone. The spindle 1 is preferably hollow and is driven externally, Fig. 5, by belts (not shown), through whorls 8, or driven internally, Fig. 8, by a cross-pin 16 on a rotating shaft 14, the point of engagement of the cross-pin coinciding with the equatorial zone. The spindle 1, which swivels about the centre A, has mounted thereon bearings 9a, 9b, carried by a housing 10 having a flange 10a with a convex spherical-shaped edge 10b engaging a concave surface 5a in a casing 5. Oscillating of the spindle is restricted by springs &c. 7, and the driving forces applied to the spindle outside of the equatorial zone must be balanced to maintain the spindle in equilibrium.
