915,698. Friction gearing. INDUSTRIELE ONDERNEMING W. H. BRASKAMP N.V. Jan. 9, 1961 [Nov. 25, 1960], No. 901/61. Class 80 (1). [Also in Group XXVI] In a ceiling ventilator fan, the impeller shaft 2, Fig. 1, is driven from the rotor 4 of the driving-motor through a universal joint 5 located within the rotor. The shaft 2 can be retained in the vertical position by engagement of its extremity 7 with a recess in a resilientlymounted plate 15. When the impeller is required to gyrate about the vertical axis, the shaft 2 is put into the dotted position, in which a counterweight 6 holds the extremity 7 in contact with a guide ring 8 of friction material. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which the counterweight 6 may, as shown, be omitted. When the shaft 2 is put into the dotted position, its extremity 7 is pressed against the guide-ring 8 by a spring 16 which bears against a ball-bearing 17 carrying a pin 19 engaging the forked end of a member 18 which is pivotally mounted by means of a ball joint 20.
