985,764. Ball mills. KLOCKNER-HUMBOLDT-DEUTZ A.G. May 22, 1963 [June 2, 1962], No. 20388/63. Heading B2A. An oscillatory ball mill comprising at least one drum 1 which is resiliently mounted and vibrated so that it has a substantially circular motion about its position at rest is provided with a feed opening 3<SP>1</SP> at one end below the level of the mass of grinding balls in the drum and a discharge opening at the other end. As shown in the drawing the mill comprises two resiliently-mounted drums 1, 2 which are oscillated by an eccentrically-weighted shaft 10, material being fed to the opening 3<SP>1</SP> of the first drum from a pipe 3 extending partly around the drum and discharged from the other end of the drum through a pipe 8 to the second drum 2 from which it is discharged through an opening 9 at the other end. The feed opening 3<SP>1</SP> may be provided either in the cylindrical shell of the drum as shown or its end wall and arranged to direct the material either axially or transversely of the drum or at an angle to these directions. The inlet pipe 3 may have a covered opening to permit samples of the material to be taken.
