Abstract
<PICT:0985676/C6-C7/1> A flanging punch and die are made simultaneously by electrochemically machining a single metal blank using an electrolyte and an electrode formed by a thin strip of metal 11, 12 bent to the required peripheral outline. The strip may be of copper, aluminium or brass and comprises inner and outer parts 11, 12 secured together by a corrugated inner section to provide an electrolyte passageway 13. A cast white metal alloy 16 is used to secure the electrode to a manifold plate 14 which is bolted to the ram 18 of an electrochemical machine. Both sides of the electrode are coated with insulating material 20 so that only the edges 22 are used for machining.
