A method of making flanged compound bearings, Fig. 4, from clad metal blanks, preferably comprising a steel base d and a light metal, e.g. aluminium alloy wearing surface comprises rolling a strip of wearing surface metal on to the steel base across the rolling direction of the base without deforming same, cutting clad blanks f from the clad strip e so that the greatest dimension of the blank is across the grain of the rolled steel and flanging the blanks so that the edges of the resultant bushes are perpendicular to the rolling direction of the steel base.
