Abstract
923,811. Punching. PRODUCTION ENGINEERING RESEARCH ASSOCIATION OF GREAT BRITAIN. May 7, 1959 [May 7, 1958 ; Aug. 18, 1958 ; Oct. 13, 1958], Nos. 14623/58, 26538/58 and 32600/58. Class 83 (4). In a punch-and-die set, the members are so formed that the work 16, Fig. 1, is bent over an abrupt edge 17 at the mouth of the die 11 before any substantial shearing occurs. A convex surface 15 (e.g. part-spherical or having a bevelled or radiused edge, or part-spherical and having a bevelled edge) on the punch may bend the work about the die-opening 17. For blanking, the mouth of the die 11a, Fig. 8, is bevelled at 21a and the end of the punch 13a plane or convex (Fig. 10, not shown). Angles and depths of chamfer are given, and proportions for the punch radius.
