881,198. Making nuts, shearing, stamping. PRESTOLE CORPORATION. Jan. 7, 1960 [Nov. 16, 1959], No. 679/60. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). [Also in Group XXV] A sheet metal nut is made by punching out a slot 11, Fig. 3 forming a depression 14, and punching out an aperture 15, the operations being carried out in sequence or simultaneously, and the nut is then placed between dies to move the deformed material from the dotted line position in Fig. 8, to the full line position on the opposite side of the plate 10. The angle 15d formed by faces 15b, 15f, is between 50-70 degrees, and the face 15e may be of helical form. In a modification, Fig. 11, the nut comprises two tongues 31, 32, formed by cutting slots 30, depressing the tongues, punching out an aperture 36 and slots 33, and then deforming the tongues in the opposite direction. The aperture 36 may be U-shaped, or the aperture 15, Fig. 3, may have several slots 11. Specification 764,177 is referred to.
