Abstract

983,966. Operating ships' windows. BECKETT LAYCOCK & WATKINSON Ltd. Oct. 30, 1963 [Oct. 30, 1962], No. 41063/62. Heading E2M. The closing movement of a sliding window which is operated by the engagement of a pinion 17 with a rack 14 Fig. 2 on the housing 12 of the window pane is effected by engagement of the pinion 14 with a part 15 of the rack which is inclined to the plane of the window. The rack 14 at each side of the window is operated by pinions 17 on a common shaft 16, Fig. 1, driven through a worm gearing by a handle. The upper end of the window is closed against its seating 35 by the engagement of a wedge 30 on the window housing with a wedge 31 on the frame. The engagement of the racks 14, 15 with the pinions 17 is ensured by guides 27, Fig. 4, on the housing 12 which run on the flat surface of a wedge 24, while an adjustable screw 25 on the housing rides on the inclined surface 26 of the wedge 24 as the window closes. Rubber stops 38 on the bottom of the window housing engage stops on the frame to prevent the window being lowered too far, and guides 37 on the window frame hold the window in its lower position.
