Abstract

983,601. Aerials. TELEFUNKEN PATENTVERWERTUNGS-G.m.b.H. Jan. 17, 1962 [Jan. 20, 1961], No. 1706/62. Heading H4A. Each of the two sides parallel to the major axis of the aperture of a sectoral horn type radiator used with circularly or elliptically polarized waves is provided with at least one outwardly directed shallow dome-like projection as shown in longitudinal section and in transverse section in Figs. 4 and 5 respectively. These projections are said to produce directivity patterns (Figs. 9 and 10, not shown) in which the vertical and horizontal components of the polarized wave apparently emanate from a single point source and in which the strength of the side lobes is reduced as compared with a radiator of plain rectangular crosssection (Figs. 1-3, 7-8, not shown). Similar domelike projections may also be provided in the walls parallel to the minor axis of the aperture. The projections are preferably formed near to the horn aperture.
