Abstract
983,076. Valves. NEUMO Ltd. May 6, 1963 [Feb. 6, 1962], No. 4509/62. Heading F2V. A fluid-flow control valve comprises a body 1 having an inlet 3 and an outlet 6 and a closure member 9 biased towards the inlet and having surfaces 18 which, when the closure member is moved away from the inlet by fluid pressure, co-operates with a surface 8 of the outlet to define a constriction such that flow through the constriction acts on the closure member to limit its movement away from the inlet and to hold it suspended in the housing. The closure member may be octagonal and has four vanes 14 with inclined surfaces near the inlet to cause it to rotate slowly. The trailing ends of the vanes are parallel to the axis of the valve and abut the housing if the closure member is momentarily forced away excessively from the inlet. The surfaces 18, which are arcuate and concave, are formed between each pair of vanes 14 and a bore or bucket cavity may also be provided in the tail end of the closure member 9. Biasing is effected by gravity or a light spring. Two end plates identical in shape may be bolted to a cylindrical member to form the valve body and the closure member may be reversed when one plate becomes worn.
