Abstract
1,037,032. Valves. LINCOLN VALVES Ltd. April 17, 1963 [Jan. 18, 1962], No. 1739/62. Heading F2V. Flow through a conical valve-seat 2 in a pipe 34 is controlled by a ball 10 or cylindrical roller in an open socket in a piston 14 actuated by an hydraulic piston and cylinder device 20. The piston 14 moves in a cylinder 22 the axis of which is inclined to the pipe 34 at the same angle as that of the conical seat 2, e.g. 60 degrees; the seat is tangential to the ball 10. The latter is loaded by a spring-urged, plunger 28 and rolls over the wall of the cylinder 22 when the piston is moved axially. The ball may be rotatable about a pin on the end of a forked arm, and a dash-pot may be used to provide shock-free closing of the valve. The valve may be used as a non-return valve or a safety valve in which the ball is urged up the cylinder against gravity or a spring.
