Abstract

867,809. Valves; hydraulic apparatus. CARLS, W. Nov. 6, 1957 [Nov. 6, 1956], No. 34648/57. Classes 69 (2) and 135. A valve for controlling a fluid motor comprises a housing having a bore 12, a port 14 intersecting the bore at two spaced areas 18, 20 and another port 16 intersecting the bore between the spaced areas, a first sleeve 50 sealing with the body and having a sliding fit with a valve spool 34 sliding in the bore, the sleeve connecting the ports in one position of the valve spool, e.g. via openings 120, 58, a second sleeve 70 slidable on the spool relative to the housing and being biased e.g. by spring 72 to permit unidirectional flow from one of the ports to the other regardless of the position of the spool valve. The valve may be incorporated in one or both lines leading to a piston and cylinder motor, the spool being actuated through lever 28 by a cam on the piston rod. As the piston moves from one end to the other to its cylinder, fluid is exhausted from the cylinder from 16 to 14 and as the piston rod cam depresses the spool valve the flow is gradually restricted whereby the speed of the piston is reduced. To move the piston in the opposite direction fluid flows from 14 to 16 via the check valve 70. An adjustable by-pass is provided at 80, 82. Pressure below the spool valve is relieved through a spool passage 122, 124.
