Abstract
1,176,477. Valves. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. 26 Sept., 1967 [27 Sept., 1966], No. 43026/66. Heading F2V. A fluid pressure relief valve comprises a body 2 having therein a cavity 13, there being disposed within the cavity two concentric members 6, 7 which, together with a part of the valve body 2, define a flat surface against which a rubber pad 5 is forced by a platen 4, the latter in turn being held in position by a screw 1. Extending through the platen is an indenter 3 which is biased against the pad 5 by a stack of disc springs 8 disposed between it and the screw 1, the bearing surface of the indenter being curved so that the sealing pressure across the surface diminishes from the centre of the surface to the outer periphery thereof, the arrangement providing maximum sealing at the inlet 12 and minimum sealing at the outlet which is in the form of an annular chamber defined between members 6 and 7 and communicating with an outlet duct 14. In an alternative embodiment, the springs may be omitted and parts 1, 3 and 4 made in one piece and the shape of the bearing surface of the indenter may be other than spherical.
