Abstract
A method of making a material having a fine as-cast structure, comprises casting an alloy comprising: ..U. ..Mo.0.4-0.55 .or.U. ..Mo.0.15-0.25 ..Al.0.1 -0.15 and subjecting the cast alloy to accelerated cooling in the range of 75-300 DEG C. A stress relieving anneal may be given by heating to 550 DEG C. for one hour in an atmosphere of argon. The molybdenum in the alloy is added as the 3% or 6% master alloy with uranium and the aluminium in the form of pure metal.
