981,663. Making track links for track laying vehicles; rolling. MOSKOVSKOE VYSHEE TEKNICHESKOE UCHILSHCHE IM. BAUMANA. July 25, 1963, No. 29454/63. Headings B3A and B3M. Apparatus for shaping metal articles comprises pairs of moulds 3, 4 hinged together at 12 and attached to a conveyer 5, and means 14 for applying deforming pressure to the articles 1 within the moulds. These articles 1 are preferably track links for tracked vehicles which are pre-formed by drop forging and whilst still hot are placed in the moulds. The latter are spring biased to open position and are closed by a roller 24 which is arranged to operate a switch 26 to stop the apparatus if the moulds do not close completely. The deformation is produced by rollers 14 backed by further rollers 15 and mounted on brackets 16 pivoted at 16<SP>1</SP> to links 17 adjustable by screws 18. During rolling the moulds are maintained closed by rollers 21 and are supported on rollers 20 carried by a chain running over pulleys 12a. The conveyer 5 is driven by motor 6 through clutch 7, worm gear 8 and coupling 9.
