Abstract

981,026. Ejectors. PHS. VAN OMMEREN N.V. Jan. 9, 1964 [Jan. 9, 1963; March 14, 1963], No. 1103/64. Heading F1E. [Also in Divisions B7 and G1] A ship provided with tanks adapted to be filled with fluid (see Division B7) has a pumping system employing ejectors. Fig. 1 shows schematically ducts 1-8 connected to tanks (not shown) of a tanker and provided with valves A1-A8 connected to the suction side of asperator or Venturi ejectors E1-E8, the discharge sides of which are connected to a duct F. The ejectors E1-E8 receive pressurized liquid from a pump P via a duct C and valves B1-B8. When the system is used for pumping ballast water, water from outboard is drawn through valve D and passes via duct C and valves B1-B8 through the ejectors E1-E8 thence into duct F and overboard once more, the water passing through the ejectors E1-E8 sucking water from the ballast tanks (not shown) through ducts 1-8 and valves A1-A into duct F and valve G, thence overboard when pumping cargo, since water cannot then be used to actuate the ejectors a duct K is brought into operation so that the liquid cargo can be used to actuate the ejectors E1-E8.
