Abstract

980,170. Lock-nuts. MICRO & PRECISION MOULDINGS (CHELTENHAM) Ltd. Feb. 15, 1961 [March 3, 1960], No. 7516/60. Heading F2H. [Also in Division B5] A self-locking nut 1 moulded from a resilient synthetic plastic comprises a longitudinal split 3 and an internal thread 2 undersize in relation to that of the screw 9 for which the nut is intended. The nut has wings 4 and a tapered leading end 5 which is confined by a passage 12, Fig. 4, and prevents opening of the nut. The split 3 may be opened in applying the nut laterally to the screw. In a modification, Figs. 5 and 7, the split 3 is closed in forcing the nut into a hole 21 in a plate 20. The nut opens when a peripheral groove 26 in the nut registers with the plate. A key 24 on the nut engages a slot 23 in the plate. In a further construction, Fig. 8, the nut is inserted laterally in a U-slot 22 in the plate 20.
