Abstract

1,142,142. Stud and socket fastenings. G.K.N. SCREWS & FASTENERS Ltd. 21 March, 1966 [20 March, 1965; 24 Dec., 1965], Nos. 11930/65. and 54846/65. Heading E2B. A fastener for connecting apertured sheets comprises a stud 10, consisting of a head 12 with a resilient skirt 16 and a shank 11 with lateral end projections 13, and a retaining piece 21, which comprises a slotted disc with spaced projecting parts 27. The sheets have each an elongated slot which is enlarged to a circle in the middle. The projecting parts 27 are inserted into the middle of the slot in a sheet the edge of which engages in grooves 28 in the parts 27 and projections 29 on the disc engages in the ends of the slot in the sheet to position the piece 21 immovably on the sheet. The projections 13 of the stud are then passed through the piece 21 and rotated through 90‹ to engage the projections in a groove in the end of each part 27. The projections are passed through the slot in the second sheet and the stud is rotated through 90‹ to its original position. A washer may be inserted on the retaining piece between the sheets. The retaining piece may be a resilient metal plate surrounding the shank of the stud and having tongues engaging in the slot in the sheet. The head of the shank has projections which engage in grooves in the plate. The retaining piece may comprise a plastics moulding or may be made of metal and may be rivetted to a sheet.
