Abstract
980,146. Casting - machines. MULTIFASTENER CORPORATION. Feb.27, 1963, No. 7881/63. Heading B3F. The mould cavity a dnan adjacent communicating reservoir are filled with molten metal, and the molten metal in the reservoir is forced under pressure therefrom into the mould cavity until solidification is complete. Metal is poured into a lower die assembly 11 which includes supplementary reservoirs 15, and the die assembly is completed by members 21, 30. The upper member 30 includes an overflow cavity 44 into which surplus metal flows as the dies close through a narrow gap 46 in which metal soon freezes to seal the die cavity. Molten metal is then expelled from the reservoir 15 into the mould cavity by pistons 16 actuated by cylinder 17. In a modification, Figs. 4, 6, metal is fed under pressure of an inert gas applied to a tank 60, to a shot chamber 57, the entrance to which is then sealed by a piston-actuated valve 65. The metal is forced from the shot chamber into a number of die cavities 53, each of which comprises a supplementary reservoir 70 from which metal is fed to the solidifying casting by a hollow piston 75.
