Abstract

979,439. Oil burners. ESSO RESEARCH & ENGINEERING CO. April 19, 1963 [June 21, 1962], No. 15588/63. Addition to 979,438. Heading F4T. A grid structure 17 is supported in the cone of fuel oil from a burner nozzle by struts 18 extending from a cap 6 on the end of a blast tube enclosing the nozzle, and deterioration of the struts is prevented by making the struts tubular and directing air therethrough or by making the struts solid and directing streams of air through apertures in the cap 6 on to the struts. The struts may have ceramic or refractory felt wrappings 20. The tubular struts may be bent at their outer ends to direct the air passing therethrough across the grid structure 17. The cap 6 may have swirl vanes. The fuel tube supplying the nozzle can be adjusted longitudinally.
