Abstract

979,166. Trueing grinding wheels. LANDIS TOOL CO. June 5, 1961 [June 3, 1960], No. 20127/61. Heading B3D. Apparatus for dressing a grinding wheel, preferably having rounded corners, comprises a tool 30 supported by a carriage 11 and movable transversely of the carriage towards and away from the wheel 15, the carriage being movable longitudinally to traverse the tool across the wheel and the operative plane of the tool being normal to the plane of the wheel but not passing through the axis of the wheel. The tool which is shown as a diamond roller driven by a motor 31 may, in modification, be replaced by a pair of single diamond points. The carriage is movable longitudinally by an hydraulic motor (not shown), and the tool and its motor are adjustably mounted on a slide 12 movable transversely of the carriage. The slide is pulled towards the wheel by an hydraulic motor 70, 72 and pushed away from the wheel by an hydraulic motor 73, 75. The movement of the slide towards the wheel is controlled by a follower 85 on the slide engaging a cam 86. The movements of the carriage, slide and tool are automatically controlled by solenoids and switches which supply fluid to the hydraulic motors, the switches 13LS, 14LS and 17LS being operated by cams 40 . . . 42 on the slide, and the switches 12LS, 15LS on the slide being operated by cams 52, 51 on the carriage. The roller is moved from A-B, B-G, G-D, D-E, E-F, F-D, D-G and G-A (see Fig. 6); the movements from B-G and F-D being quicker than, and the movements from D-E and G-A being slower than the movements from G-D and D-G.
